Be Your Best

When I was a child I believed that I would live a long life. I believed that death happened mainly to old people, even though I knew that sometimes children died. My brother lost two great friends when he was a kid, but I thought that the death of children was few and rare. I would look at my parents, who at the time I thought were so old, which is very ironic because I am older than they were at that time, and I would say, surely I will live to be their age. I would also look at my grandparents and my great-grandparents and think; well, I definitely should live to their ages. Given I was very young and, yes, very naïve. I grew up, and I have been to more funerals than I ever thought possible. Some were for friends, some for family members, young and old. Death knows no bias. It can strike the old, young, rich, or poor. It is non-discriminatory, and I don’t believe that we are ever really prepared for it when it occurs, even when it is someone with a terminal illness.

Be Your Best
However, I do not want to write a downer-type blog. Life is short no matter how long you live. We all know that. We also know that we all have an appointed time to die (Hebrews 9:27). Therefore, we need to make sure we are our best every moment, every minute, every second of our lives while we still have the breath of life within us.

I know that there are songs like “Live like you are dying.” Plus, there are multiple statements about not taking life for granted. Yet, how well are we doing that? Are we striving to be the best person that we can be every day of our lives? Are we striving to put aside bitterness, discontent, fears, worries, and any other negative characteristics, and instead, embracing love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, self-control, and full contentment with who God has made us to be?

Ron Dart made a great point in one of his many sermons that I’m going to paraphrase. He stated that God’s will for our lives is for us to do His will on earth while we are here. God wants us to be His lights. He wants us to bear good fruit. He wants us to “[m]ake every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy” (Hebrews 12:14), to love our neighbor as ourselves (one reference, Leviticus 19:18), to “love your enemies, do good to them” (Luke 6:35), to keep His commandments (John 14:15), to love Him (John 14:15), to be set apart from the world (John 15:19), etc. We are to be our best that we can be in every moment of our lives because this brings glory to His name. It will also make life more enjoyable and more peaceful. Therefore, “[d]o your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth” (Colossians 3:23-24). Also, enjoy life, rejoice daily, and thank God for every moment He grants you.

Greetings Everyone,

I received an email from the IBEW Hall today that said they would NOT have the Hall ready this Sabbath. All the furniture was moved out into the Hall and the floors were being waxed today but they need time to harden. The painters were finished painting the walls and kitchen area but didn’t have all the doors finished.

So hopefully on the 2nd Sabbath this month we can be back. We are looking forward to being back.

We will still meet with United Church of God this Sabbath at 12:30 PM. So we hope to see some of you then.

Here lately, I have been learning a lot of new skills. I am realizing that the only one who limits me is myself, and I have found that I am more capable of learning things than I ever imagined. It seems that the more I step out of my comfort zone, the more God helps me to accomplish. I imagine we all are more capable of more than we think because we serve a God that can give us the grace we need to succeed. He can do all things, even impossible things. We can’t do all things, but with Him we can. I think He enjoys stretching us, so that we realize what all He can do through us if we let Him. Continue reading

Get Up

Sometimes life can figuratively knock the breath out of you. Trials can come in an avalanche rolling you down the hill that you were just about to conquer, leaving you breathless, stunned, hurt, and bewildered at the bottom on the ground covered with piles of “snow” on top of you preventing you from standing back up. At this time, all you really want to do is ball up in a “fetal position” and give up trying. Continue reading

I am rereading the Bible. It is fascinating how many times I have read Genesis, yet I always notice something “new.” I am realizing that the Word of God is a living thing because of the fact that I can learn something no matter how many times I may have read the same scriptures. I am thinking that maybe I notice “new” things when I reread because they are then applicable to my life at that moment. Continue reading

Sabbath Hall Update

CGI Springfield Congregation

Greetings,

We just received an update on the IBEW Hall Remodel. The old ceiling tiles have been removed and hauled off. The painters are there now painting the ceiling grids. New Ceiling Tile has been ordered and is expected to come in tomorrow as well as new ceiling lights. Once the paint is dry they will put in the new ceiling lights and the new ceiling tile.

When all the work is done with the ceiling then the painters will come back and paint the walls. We expect a couple of weeks for this to get done to this point. Susan didn’t mention the floor this time so we will wait to hear about that later.

We will keep you posted on the progress, in the mean time we will still be meeting with United Church of God in Nixa at the Nixa Senior Citizens Center for Services at 12:30 pm each Sabbath and for the Day of Atonement at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Hall.

We had an enjoyable combined Feast of Trumpets Services with United Church of God. “How good and how pleasant it is for Brethren to dwell together in Unity.”

Sabbath Services and Holy Days

We will be meeting with United Church of God in Nixa until the remodel of our Hall is complete. We expect the remodel won’t be done until we get back from the Feast but we will keep you posted.

So far the ceiling tiles have all been taken down and I think they replaced the grids where the skylights were and now they are ready for the painters to come in this week and paint the ceiling grids and walls. Once that is complete they will install the new ceiling tile and then start on the floors.
