I was just thinking about all of the old quotes that get brought up from time to time. Sayings such as what we call the “Golden Rule” which says “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Some how today that has been turned around to say, “The one with the Gold makes the rules” Not quite the same is it?
Actually what I was thinking about when I sat down to write this article was how so many people bicker back and forth among themselves today, even within the churches of God. No one seems to be able to get along for any length of time especially when it comes to things regarding ones personal understanding of religious topics, even to the point of people having to leave one Church group in search of other people who believe as they do. I have been asked this question more than a few times. “How do I find the true church of God?” Or the variation of the question is “How do I find the truth?” Sometimes I have to ask for clarification from the person asking one of these questions, what do you mean by “the truth” as many wouldn’t know it if they ran straight into it in broad daylight! Why is that? I’ll answer that question in just a minute.
There are groups around the world that will readily stand up and without hesitation state that they and they alone are the “True Church” or that they and they alone have the truth of God and that you need to come to them to get it. Have you ever wondered how Christ must have felt when He was betrayed by His own Apostles? They were the people He loved and were the closest to Him. They knew Him better than anyone or so one would think. They ate, slept, traveled and were taught by Him. They were true followers of Christ so how is it they could betray Him on that night that He was delivered up?
In 1 Peter 5:8 Peter says to be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. It looks to me like a spirit of fear had entered them and that they were experiencing a lack of faith. That lack of faith also reminds me of the scripture when Peter was walking on the water, once Peter took his eyes off of Christ he lost his focus and began to sink. Continue reading
