Pastors Update April 3 2020

Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread

Dear Brethren,

It’s been a couple of tough weeks for all of us having to stay at home but like I said in the sermon a few weeks ago, we might find ourselves in captivity just like the Children of Israel did back in the day and so it is!

Obviously we will not be able to meet for the Passover, the Night to be Observed, the 1st Holy day of Unleavened Bread or the Last Day of Unleavened Bread.

Dates:
Passover is April 7th after sundown.
NTBO is April 8th after sundown (beginning of the 1st Holy Day)
First Holy Day April 9th
Last DOULB April 15th

Don’t despair; it is quite acceptable to keep all of this at home while we are in captivity.

The First observance is not a Holy day, it is an event, and is called the Passover. Each of you may keep this according to what you have access to. Some have the Internet and can follow along with the CGI web cast that will be broadcast and if you prefer, you can do your own in home service. Some may have materials that they can read. I would recommend reading some of the scriptures in the book of John, the sections where Christ takes the bread and wine with the Disciples.

Make sure you have your own unleavened bread on hand as well as whatever small amount of wine for each person who is taking the Passover. No one is to take the bread and wine that is not baptized!

Set up your bread and wine in a way that you can ask a blessing on each item, do one at a time, with the bread first and then the wine. No need to worry about the foot washing but if you have two people you may do the foot washing as well.

Some have asked about Holy day offerings: If you want them to go to Tyler then mail them direct to Tyler. If you want them to stay in the local CGI account, then mail them to Lanora. We will not be sending any registered mail to Tyler this Spring.

As far as the NTBO, just have a nice dinner at home with your family and remember that God lead the children of Israel out of their bondage and He will lead us out of ours. Just in case you forgot, Israel had to experience some of the 10 plagues as well and then God protected them from the rest.

As far as the two Holy days, I don’t have any conformation yet but I’m hoping that CGI will broadcast for both days. In case they don’t you will have to do the best you can at home.

Don’t forget to de-leaven your homes, cars and so forth. That is what God commanded for the 7 days of Unleavened Bread. Yes, it is hard, leaven hides and so does sin! That is the whole purpose of the 7 days. You realize how easy it is to eat something that is puffed up (leavened) and then we also see how easily sin can hide in our lives as well. So we do this physical task to learn a spiritual lesson. Leaven is hiding everywhere and so is sin! Thankfully we have a Savior who is willing to take away even our hidden sins if we ask, and that is grace as we have not done anything to make us worthy of having it taken away.

This will be the first time since baptism that Lanora and I have not been able to be at a joint Passover and Holy days. We sure miss everyone and want to encourage you all to stand firm, keep the Word of God close at hand and don’t worry.

God will take care of you and we need to take care of one another!

Have a good Passover and Holy days, we will be in touch if there is any news to pass along.

David and Lanora
